Business Profile: Rick's Amedeo's North

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Recipes span generations
  • Amedeo's North offers dine-in and catering

  • Rick and Lisa DeAngelis opened the doors of Amedeo’s North with two primary assets – experience and a stack of recipes from Rick’s beloved Nana. Rick, the son of local legend Amedeo “Dick” DeAngelis, had grown up in the elder DeAngelis’ kitchen, watching him interact with customers, knead the perfect pizza dough and turn out the most amazing lasagna this side of Italy.

When Rick and his wife, Lisa (who had formerly applied her sales and management skills at Cisco Systems and Pitney Bowes), decided to open their own restaurant, they were adamant that it be as good as or better than the original Amedeo’s on Western Boulevard in Raleigh.

Rick’s restaurant savvy and Lisa’s business skills have since proven to be just the right mix. With decades of experience behind him, Rick is proving to be every bit the restaurateur that his father was and is wowing old customers and new ones alike. On a typical night, a customer is likely to find Rick wandering through the dining room, greeting his customers and chatting with the regulars – who, after 25 years, are more like family. He may even hand a child a ball of pizza dough complete with directions on how to properly knead it. “This is home,” says Rick. “I take a lot of pride in both the food that I serve and the people that I meet.”

As the business has expanded, so have the services that Rick’s Amedeo’s North offers. Customers can now buy his homemade marinara sauce and blue cheese dressing. Also, the eatery’s catering service is expanding, serving parties large or small throughout the Triangle as Rick pours the same dedication into his off-site business that customers of his homey restaurant have come to expect.

“We can do parties as large as 700 or as few as 10, and we do it all to their specifications,” he says. “Our customers are looking for great quality with no hassle and that’s what we offer.”

Rick says he never imagined his catering service could be so popular when he began considering it some 15 years ago. And that same hands-on service that his father perfected over so many years has not been lost on Rick, who delivers made-to-order Italian feasts to discerning palates all over Raleigh. From rehearsal dinners to corporate meetings, Rick’s Amedeo’s North offers authentic Italian cuisine with a family feel. Nana would be proud.
